Monad has a unique culture in the web3 world. Beyond its signature purple color, it also has its own mascots known as the Monanimals — iconic characters born from community memes and lore.
In this article, I’ll explain who these Monanimals are and share some fun facts about each one.

SALMONAD
Created by the user Mondalf on October 10, 2023.
This mascot became so iconic that the term “salmoposting” was born — when members flood a tweet with endless “Salmonad” replies… without explaining anything.
Salmonad also got several alternate versions, such as:
Salmonads Kids Show
A dark puppet show version created by RayJ, where the puppets say things like “help me” and “this is hell.”

French Salmonad
Known for shouting **“SCANDALEUX!”** whenever he shows up. He owns a bakery called **Les Scandaleux**, infamous for its chaotic line and terrible organization.

Chinese Salmonad
Created by Lydicius, this version doesn’t have much detailed lore, but it stirred some controversy because RayJ was worried the character might be seen as a cultural stereotype.
MOLANDAK
Molandak is described as a purple hedgehog living inside the Monad Discord. He appeared on October 3, 2023, created by Bill Monday — but his story goes way beyond that.
According to lore created by RayJ, Molandak exists because of a time paradox: in the future, a rich member travels back in time to relive the old Monad days and posts a Molandak meme before Molandak even existed… creating an infinite loop of existence.
Every year, on Thanksgiving Day, the Molandak Festival is celebrated, where the community builds a symbolic spiritual protector — a structure meant to warn that the village is protected by the light of Molandak. (Yes, it’s part of the lore… please don’t believe there’s an actual Molandak cult lol.)
CHOG
Chog was created by RayJ on December 10, 2023, while experimenting with an AI tool that turns drawings into images. Today, he’s described as a **cat-like creature** living in the Monad Discord.
According to his creator, the real name is Monald, but the community prefers calling him Chog.
RayJ often jokes that Chog is “his son” (though no one really understands how that works).
In the lore, Chog even once gave RayJ psychedelics disguised as aspirin!
Chog has danced at the end of human society, disappeared mysteriously, and showed up in a bizarre Japanese energy drink cult video (see below):
There’s also the famous Banana Chog version, where he appears dressed as a banana giving a thumbs up.
MOKADEL
There’s not much information about this Monanimal.
It was created by @Elearachel (probably on October 10, 2023) and, according to the Monadic Encyclopedia, was simply added to the server with the words: “kadal ksksksks.”
I believe the original Mokadel post is this one below:
MOYAKI
Moyaki was created on the day by Havo Martinez (I couldn’t find his first appearance on the server, below is the oldest message with Moyaki that I found).
His name came from CEO Keone and he was automatically adopted by the community (image below).
His story, however, is totally mysterious. During my search I found 3 interesting facts.
- Some users say the story vanished along with the kingdom of Atlantis.
- Others say he is half cat and half salmon, and also that he can shoot.
- There was an event to create this Monanimal’s story, but unfortunately I can’t access it.
MOUCH
Mouch is a purple fly born from a crazy idea and an audio recording that, for some reason, touched the hearts (and minds) of the Frenchnads.
The official lore says it all started with an audio from Grimjow saying he was quitting Monad to dedicate himself to fly research. He said flies are underrated pollinators and have more future than blockchain. That was enough for Gleader to draw a purple fly called Mouch — and just like that, a new Monanimal was born on 04/25/2024.
Mouch likes Bill but not Monday. There’s even a mysterious triangular relationship between Mouch, Bill Monday, and an entity known only as Super xxxxx. Oh, and he’s laser-resistant and loves eating spiders.
The Deeds of Mouch
According to the lore created by the community, Mouch has miraculous powers:
- Inspires artists, musicians, and poets (apparently only on Fridays);
- Heals sad people with his ethereal presence;
- Visits dreamers with prophecies and revelations;
- Shares “BLOCKCHAIN ALPHA” secrets with distracted scholars.
The impact was so great that the Cult of Mouch emerged, a group that gathers every Friday to watch someone draw the fly and reflect on creativity, harmony, and resilience — the three core teachings of Mouch.
I also once participated in a Discord event where whoever lasted the longest making fly noises would win.
Antonio, the Antagonist
No hero is complete without a villain. Shortly after Mouch was born, ANTONIO appeared, drawn by Doudouron. It is believed that he is Italian and puts Mouch on pizza.
His goal? Regulate the Mouch population. He doesn’t want the end of Mouch, but he doesn’t want too much chaos either.
OTHER MONANIMALS
There are also other less famous or unapproved Monanimals, like Mosferatu. If you forget to say “gmonad”, he might be watching you…
